This comb is an excellent example of the smaller and daintier hair accessories that were worn at the end of the Victorian period. The comb mount, with its two tines, is made from clarified steer horn. A brass heading with three flowers each of which has a faux pearl in its center surmounts this comb. It has the same design on both sides. The finish or nacre on a few of the pearls is wearing off and there is some wearing on the upper tines near the ornament, but that should be expected for 123 year-old accessory! I have never worn it! These combs are one of the favorite designs of the Victorian era, although their size grew much smaller as the end of the reign approached. They were produced in very large numbers. The measurements 3 ¾” by 1 1/8” wide at the widest point. It is unmarked. See Pics. I did not find this comb but I found similar hair combs depending on the ornament selling from $200 to $700!
